Music Monday🎶 Being On Fire For God

Darren Mulligan of "We are Messengers"

Discovering musicians who have honesty and passion laying the groundwork for their music challenges one to seek the truth within ourselves. Hearing the Message from songs inspired by God moves one to open the heart to those "messengers set on fire" by the Holy Spirit and if the person's spirit is touched, it can not stay still; it moves to spread God's love everywhere, touching souls and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

One young Irishman struck by God's love could not turn back to his darkness once the light of the Holy Spirit captured his soul.

His story inspires us to look deeper, to let go of selfishness and to respond to the Truth of our lives- that we are God's Beloved children. Mercy from God poured into Darren Mulligan and his song became the voice of Jesus.

Darren Mulligan:

" I am a Christian daddy, a Christian husband, a Christian racquetball player. I'm a Christian voter, I am a Christian gardener. Whatever I do, I do it in His name. I have no issue with bands that say, 'You know what, I'm an artist who believes in Christ but we're not Christian artists.' I get why you say that [but] I'm not ashamed of Him, what He has done for me, I will never…in my life ever turn around say, 'I'm not a Christian anything.'"

He concluded, "Everything I do is imbued with His goodness. The fact that I can breathe today — I'm a Christian breather. I don't deserve to have breath in my bones but He said you can breathe today Darren. And He said, you can go and hold your wife's hand today. And so I'm a Christian hand-holder and that's a stupid thing to say, but it's the truth."

The Pearl

Menacing predator prowling

Finding a rebellious heart
Freezes her senses for a moment
Seeking the delicate treasure
But the pearl cannot be touched

Longing for the love she knew

An abyss of her heart silent
Responding to deception

The deceiver whispering lies
The pearl still cannot be touched

The Rescuer hastens
Illuminating an enslaved soul
Waves of mercy wash her heart
Tenderly restoring brokenness

The pearl saved by His Grace

"C.S. Lewis often alludes to the idea that if we ever truly saw evil —in its unabashed ugliness— we would be so completely reviled and repulsed that we would never choose it."

Music profoundly impacts my soul, with so many beautiful choices I tend to gravitate towards positive messages that encourage my soul to praise God in His creation, in His Merciful Love.
As I posted yesterday, musicians do not always go under a label to proclaim truth in their music, nor do they necessarily have to claim a CCM label either to share the gospel.

But what if the artist doesn't "proclaim" Christianity? What if instead there are definite Christian attitudes and morales in their lyrics that can lead one to believe in Christianity?

How then should we view this??

I don't have an answer here, but my opinion is that Catholics and Protestants can both embrace and see Christ in all people. St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta would feed anyone, anywhere and was one to look beyond labels and see Christ in all people; begging to be held, fed, loved.

Isn't it what Jesus would do?

Chris Martin of the international musical sensation "Coldplay" has undoubtedly spread at least peace, love and kindness. They have helped many organizations with funds and their efforts to eradicate poverty, aids, and to spread peace efforts globally.

Coldplay's newest EP release "Kaleidoscope" contains a song touching on the theme of immigration – something that Pope Francis knows all too well, being an immigrant himself , as a child his family left Italy in 1929 to escape the fascist rule of Benito Mussolini.

Pope Francis poses with a group of Syrian refugees at the Vatican, Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016. Pope Francis has had lunch with a group of Syrian refugees who were brought to Italy from the Greek island of Lesbos thanks to the pope’s intercession. The Vatican said Thursday that the pope brought toys and other gifts for the children, who, in turn, gave him a selection of their drawings. Both the adults and children had the chance to speak with the pontiff ‘’about the beginning of their lives in Italy,’’ the Vatican said. (Credit: L'Osservatore Romano/Pool Photo via AP.)

In the song "Miracles (Someone Special)" Martin writes of famous people who had confidence in what they believed in, and were not afraid to be love in the face of horrendous evil of their times.

In the Catholic faith, Saints follow the Lord Jesus to their own crucifixion by not ever backing down from the truth Christ taught them. They went to their deaths for the faith, they spoke up for the poor and oppressed, and with Christ by their side they created multitudes of followers by their actions.

Other famous leaders and believers in common human rights as peace and justice are mentioned in the song as well, focusing on doing the right thing against all odds.

In this day and age of rampant corruption, impurities, and filth in music, I am weeding through and finding amidst loud screams of "sexual revolution" and lewdness are gems that speak beauty, love, peace, justice. And millions are listening… converting.. talking about peace.. loving… putting down the masks of selfish ambition and getting things done that create joy- which makes God pleased.

"Miracles (Someone Special)"
(with Big Sean)

[Chris Martin:]
My father said never give up son
Just look how good Cassius become
Muhammad, Mahatma, and Nelson
Not scared to be strong

Now you could run and just say they’re right
No I'll never be no one in my whole life
Or you could turn and say no wait they're wrong
And get to keep on dancing all life long

My father said never give up son
Just look what Amelia and Joan done
Or Rosa, Teresa their war won
Not scared to be strong

Now you could run and just say they’re right
No I’ll never be no one in my whole life
Or you could turn and say no wait, they’re wrong
And get to keep on dancing all life long

Yeah you could be someone special
You've got bright in your brains and lightning in your veins
You'll go higher than they've ever gone
In you I see someone special
You've got fire in your eyes and when you realize you'll go further than we've ever gone
Just turn it on

[Big Sean:]
Look I paid my intuition I couldn't afford tuition
My funds was insufficient, it felt like I'm in prison
Until I realized I had to set my mind free
I was trusting statistics more than I trust me
Get a degree, good job, 401k, but I’m trying to turn k’s to m’s, what does it take?
And maybe I could be the new Ali of music prolly
Instead of doing it just as a hobby like these boys told me to
I guess you either watch the show or you show and prove
Prove it to them or you prove it to yourself but honestly it's better if you do it for yourself
Never complacent till we hit the oasis
One life don't waste it feel my heart races, success I taste it, ah
Ah we on the verge of getting every single thing that we deserve

[Chris Martin:]
Yeah you could be someone special
You've got fire in your eyes I see heaven inside you'll go further than we've ever gone
In you I see someone special
You've got bright in your brains you can break through those chains you'll go higher than we've ever gone
Just turn it on

In you I see someone special
Don't go to war with yourself
Just turn, just turn, just turn it on and you can't go wrong

Complete Abandonment

And then God picked her up, scooping her into His strong arms and without questioning her, He wiped the dirt and tears from her face. She began to weep uncontrollably and tried to mutter.. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to….."  but He just smiled and looking deeply into her green eyes, and pushing back her messy ringlets He whispered… "Shhhhhh, little one, it's ok, it's ok, I found you! Oh how glad I am! I have been looking for you, but everytime I came by you kept running off searching for… something to fill this emptiness inside of you. I'm here now and I won't let anything happen to your soul! You are mine and I have fought for you! I won you! He didn't win, the evil one, and I will forgive and restore you with my Merciful Love! I do not condemn you, for your heart's desire has manifested itself through your tears of shame- your heart's desire is My Merciful Love, and it always belongs to you! Let my Holy Spirit dwell within yours, becoming your soul's delightful resident. Nothing will take you away from that Love!" -Stephanie White

Often, We let a bit of resentment in… (But never despair, His Mercy Triumphs!)

I Am New – Jason Gray (A wonderful song-watch the video, it’s amazing!)
When a tough conversation with anyone in particular ends, sometimes with residual hurts, we can decide to “let go and let God”, praying we can overlook the unwelcome and unwanted argument and move on, or we internalize the feelings and it becomes the very thing that ruins our mood for the day. It can grow, settling in and start whispering lies to us…. Because the Deceiver, the very one who robs us of any serenity, takes note of our behavior and pushes the buttons.. We begin to manifest ill thoughts, which can become vices and we then most likely will sin. Letting it fester, we begin to isolate. We take it to Facebook, or Twitter, and vomit insidious hatefulness hoping to receive validation for our anger. Instead it makes us nauseous with hate. Rebellion sets in. Unrealistic thoughts flood our minds and thoughts. We feel empty inside, and reach for whatever we find to pacify us to make the hurt go away. Now deceived, the Taskmaster takes a stronger hold and unaware- our lives tumble into slavery of temptations, lies, and our true self is lost.

Hopefully- a tender prodding from a true friend who may notice changes in our behavior will lead us back to our Father’s Heart- where He longs to welcome us home and celebrates with joy over one of His flock returning. Sins forgiven, Mercy showering our innermost being, we return as a prodigal child to a Loving God.

What then, if a soul is stuck or frozen? Filled with rage, loneliness, fears??

What if, the poor soul has been influenced by seductive powers that pull in the weak one– completely lying and giving empty promises?

Satan knows our weaknesses.

He doesn’t care if we’ve become lost in the thickets of lies. He’s covered them with the sweetest of fragrance, the loveliest tastes, the sultriest of temptations, whispering the ugliest of lies with his smooth talking. He can make evil “look good”.

Satan hates you. Personally.

But he is terrified of our Blessed Mother. He trembles at the name of Jesus. (even barely whispered by the anxious soul who is trapped under deceit) And he knows he is unable to  take us away from our Father, who loves us infinitely, and while we are lost– He searches for His beloved–

Romans 8:31-39New American Standard Bible (NASB)
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? 33 Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; 34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was [a]raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. 35 Who will separate us from the love of [b]Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 Just as it is written,
“For Your sake we are being put to death all day long;

We were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Amen, and Amen.
